DAYTON, Ohio – The final doubleheader of the Dayton Dutch Lions' season arrives on Friday nighs at Miami Valley South Stadium in Bellbrook with the club's W-League side taking on the Northern Virginia Majestics at 5:30 p.m. and the Dayton Dutch Lions facing off against USL PRO league leaders Orlando City at 8 p.m.
Turning to focusing on the regular season after losing to Sporting Kansas City in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night, the Dutch Lions (1-7-5) take on Orlando City (10-1-2) for the first time this season.
“I am curious to see how we recover from the Open Cup game,” said Coach Ivar Van Dinteren. “Not just physically, but mentally as well. I think Orlando is almost as good as Kansas City. Last year we played very well against them and I think we will again give them a hard time. What is nicer than playing against the frontrunner? The answer is 'winning'!”
With three goals each, Eli Garner and Gibson Bardsley, who leads the league in shots with 34, will face off with Orlando City’s Dennis Chin (six goals, 20 shots, 12 points) and Kevin Molino (five assists, nine points). Orlando City has five players in the Top 20 Point-scorers of USL PRO.
Prior to the men's contest, the Dutch Lions Women (0-5-2) and the Majestics (0-7-0) will try to claim their first win in the first of two match-ups this season. Each will have a second chance as they rematch Sunday evening at Miami Valley South Stadium at 6 p.m.
