Charlotte Eagles News Release -- www.charlotteeagles.com

Thursday, April 7, 2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles begin their 19th United Soccer Leagues season against their longtime rivals on Saturday when they open their 2011 USL PRO season in Charleston against the Battery. Game time at Blackbaud Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. and fans can follow the action at www.usllive.com.

A total of 13 players have returned for the 2011 Eagles, including nine-year veteran Josh Rife and team captain Greg Dalby. The returning core has enough experience playing together to form a strong defense and talented and deep midfield.

Additions to the lineup will strengthen the Eagles' offense with Gibson Bardsley arriving from Western Washington University. Goalkeeper Eric Reed, a four-year USL veteran, will patrol the net and lead the team from the back.

Another notable newcomer is Walter Moore, a defender on loan from Caledonia AIA. Moore is also a member of the Guyana National Team, the Golden Jaguars.

Much like 2010 when they captured the USL-2 title, the Battery will be a force on the field. Charleston took three of four against the Eagles last season with one draw.

"As always, Charleston will be a difficult opponent," Eagles GM Tom Engstrom said. "We are excited to start the USL PRO season. Our coaches have done a good job assembling a good group of players that have been working hard together. It's time to see where we stand."

The Charlotte Eagles home opener is slated for 7 p.m. on April 16 against Orlando City. The Eagles provide the perfect family environment, while enjoying world class soccer. To purchase tickets or find the 2011 Eagles roster, schedule and results, check out www.CharlotteEagles.com.

Purchase tickets online for $8 adult and $5 Children (under 18), at the gate for $10 adult and $7 children.
