CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery (8-3-0) take on the Harrisburg City Islanders (4-2-4) on Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6 p.m. with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ($10 - $18, (843) 971-4625 / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery enters the game in second position in USL PRO on the back of a convincing 3-0 win against Antigua Barracuda FC in a game played at Blackbaud Stadium last Friday night.
Saturday’s game is the Battery’s Christmas in June Celebration presented by Crews Chevrolet to benefit Toys for Tots. Fans can exchange a new toy for one game ticket at the stadium box office and at half time there will be a “Teddy Bear Toss” to collect all of the toys donated for Toys for Tots.
This is the first game of a two match series; the Battery will visit Harrisburg for the return fixture on Wednesday, August 8.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser strengthened his roster this week with the addition of Jamaican national team forward Dino Williams. The 22-year-old Williams, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, joins Charleston on loan from Jamaica’s Village United.
Harrisburg’s last match was a 2-1 win against the Rochester Rhinos last Friday night. Substitute forwards Yann Ekra and Lucky Mkosana scored the goals as the City Islanders came from behind to defeat Rochester.
The City Islanders are one of three USL PRO sides still competing in the U.S. Open Cup. Harrisburg defeated MLS’s New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls to advance to the quarterfinal round next Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Union.
