SILVER SPRING, Md. - Henry Lopez of Manassas, VA and Osborn H.S. played for the Real Maryland FC Monarch U17 Team for two years and was the leading scorer during the regular season. Last night, playing in his home Country, Henry scored the game winning goal that knocked the United States out of contention for World Cup play and put Guatemala into its first U20 World Cup birth.
“The Monarch Family is very proud of Henry and his accomplishments,” says General Manager David Noyes. “He is not only a great player, but great person with strong character. Real Maryland FC aims to continue to develop the youth of Maryland and the DC Metro Area and hopes that other Monarchs will follow in Henry’s footsteps.”
In two consecutive seasons with Real Maryland FC, he led the U17 Team to the United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League National Finals Tournament. Lopez also helped the Monarchs take home some local hardware where he helped the team win the Icebreaker tournament in Richmond, VA and the Virginia Beach Memorial Day tournament in 2010.
