Santa Clarita Blue Heat News Release - www.scblueheat.com

Saturday, June 16, 2012

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Co. – The Santa Clarita Blue Heat finished their trip to the Rocky Mountain state with a 1-1 tie against the Colorado Rush on Saturday evening. The point moves the Blue Heat into a fourth-place tie with the Colorado Rapids Women in the Western Conference.

Samantha Harder scored first for the Rush Women in the 24th minute of play. Colorado was up 1-0 through the half until in the 64th minute, when Laura Luis took a solid shot off of an Edite Fernandes assist to even the score. The game ended in a draw, but not without both teams taking their share of shots; 18 for the Blue Heat and 12 for the Rush.

“We certainly had our opportunities to score,” Blue Heat Head Coach Charles Martinez said. “Our ability to finish was an issue but I was very pleased with our teamwork and the players’ motivation to continue shooting. Overall it was a great game for both teams and we are very happy with the result.”

The Blue Heat will travel to the Pacific Northwest on a three-game road trip this week. On Wednesday, June 20, they will face the Victoria Highlanders at 7 pm PT at Royal Athletic Park; the Vancouver Whitecaps on June 22 and the Seattle Sounders Women on June 24.
