Ogden Outlaws News Release -- www.ogdenoutlaws.com

Thursday, June 7, 2012

OGDEN, Utah -- The Ogden Outlaws return home this week after a quick trip to Southern California where Ogden were one minute away from sweeping the full six points all the way back to Utah. However, a 93rd-minute penalty kick against the Pali Blues stole two points from the Outlaws.

“We had a good weekend getting the four points,” said Coach Mike Hickman. “The boys were pretty bummed about giving up the stoppage-time PK, but I think it will make them hungry.”

Ogden will have a chance to set things straight on Thursday night when they kick off a six-game home stand against the second-placed team in the PDL's Southwest Division, FC Tucson. The Outlaws currently sit in fifth place.

FC Tucson is coming into the match riding a five-game winning streak capped off with a 1-0 win at BYU on Tuesday evening. With the clean sheet, Tucson also extended its shutout streak to 455 minutes. Ogden will look to test the stingy Tucson defense which has only given up two goals on the season.

“Scoring goals is always hard, but we need to find ways to get opportunities and put them in the net,” Hickman said. “The boys know how important our home field is to our success. I have told them to go out strong and out work Tucson.

“Our bench has been a great source of relief so far this year – they came up really big for us against the Blues. I trust anyone of our players can get the job done which will be important against an talented team like Tucson.”

On Saturday evening Ogden will welcome in-state rival BYU to Bonneville High School. Historically, the Cougars have had the upper hand, going 16-3-3 against the Outlaws.

“[With BYU] on Saturday, the boys want to be the best in the state,” said Hickman. “Our matches against BYU are always tightly contested, but I really like this year’s group of guys. They have strong personalities and have that desire to just win, so I like our chances.”

Both matches kick off at 6:00 PM at Bonneville High School. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the gate.
