ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Soccer Club announced today the signing of Jean Alexandre to a short-term loan from San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer. Alexandre will be with the Lions for the next two matches.
“I’ve known Jean for four years,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “He was one of the first players I invited into a camp in Austin. We were devastated when he got drafted by MLS because we really wanted him. What I like about him is his physical presence. He can play in two or three positions. He’ll be a big boost for us.”
Alexandre was born in Verrettes, Haiti, but grew up in South Florida from the age of nine. During his college years at Lynn University in Palm Beach, Fla., Alexandre also played in the PDL with Palm Beach Pumas and the Ventura County Fusion. He was drafted by Real Salt Lake as the 12th overall pick (first round) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
Alexandre made 38 appearances over three seasons with Real Salt Lake. He scored one goal for RSL, last season against Vancouver Whitecaps. He was named the MLS Player of the Week for his efforts in that match. He was traded to San Jose Earthquakes after the 2011 season. He has yet to make a first-team appearance for San Jose, but is regularly named to the match day roster.
In 2009, his rookie season in MLS, Alexandre spent nine games under Heath on loan with the Austin Aztex. He flourished under Heath’s tutelage, scoring four goals during his short time in Austin.
Alexandre is also a full international with the Haitian National Team. He has been capped 13 times for his home country. He has scored twice, both against the U.S. Virgin Islands during World Cup Qualifying. Orlando City’s Jerome Mechack is also a regular on the Haitian National Team.
Alexandre’s loan lasts from June 6 to June 18, making him available for the club's next two matches. His first full training session with the club was the morning of June 7. He will be available for interviews beginning June 8.
