WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads have signed 25-year-old Canadian goalkeeper, Troy Hernandez. Hernandez attended East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania where he played in 32 games over a three-year career, including 20 starts during his senior season.

Hernandez was named to the NSCAA All-Atlantic Region third team in recognition for his eight shut outs and a 0.78 goals against average during his senior campaign.

The Hammerheads offer Hernandez his first taste of professional soccer as members of USL PRO. Hernandez’s signing was delayed due to a wrist injury, but the keeper appears to be fully healthy as the Hammerheads battle for a playoff birth.

Hernandez joins the Hammerheads’ goalkeeping tandem of Alex Horwath and Kyle Polak. Coach David Irving is encouraged by the acquisition, noting that Hernandez is a good, young goalkeeper who will benefit from practicing at a high level every day.
