IRVINE, Calif. -- Having played to their fourth tie of the season this past Tuesday, the Orange County Blue Star will face the LA Misioneros FC this Sunday at 5 p.m. at Concordia University In the last match up with LA the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at the Misioneros' home, Carver Field. Coming into this match the Blue Star (3-0-4) have won three of their last four games.
This is the Blue Star's eighth game of the season, marking the midway point of the regular season and the club's pursuit of a place in the PDL playoffs. Before embarking on their longest road trip of the season, the Blue Star will also host fellow playoff contenders the Ventura County Fusion on Friday, June 8.
“Moving forward into the second half of the season we will need to be clinical in our final component to our game," Blue Star coach John Spencer said. "The games get more difficult as our opponents have also improved. We can’t sit back and just outplay our opponent. We will need to execute our chances if we are going to be successful moving forward. We still feel the gap between teams in our conference is very small. We will have to battle each step of the way and earn our three points.”
The Misioneros will come into play on Sunday night with a record of 1-3-3, but the Misioneros have been a tough opponent all season, losing just once in their last five outings. The Blue Star expect the Misioneros will battle hard, with all but two of their matches this season having ended with a one-goal differential.
It is a tight race this season in the PDL's Southwest Division, and no game can be taken for granted. Sunday will provide exciting action as these two teams try to end the first half of the season on a high note.
