WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads will host USL PRO’s first-place team, Orlando City, on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads will be looking to redeem themselves after losing 4-1 at the Florida Citrus Bowl back in April in what was the Hammerheads’ first game of the 2012 USL PRO regular season season.
In that meeting, the Hammerheads fell behind early after a penalty kick allowed Orlando’s John Rooney the first goal of the match. The Hammerheads were able to avoid the shutout when Hagop Chirishian found Bryce Taylor off a corner kick in the 56th minute giving Taylor his first goal with the Hammerheads on his debut for the club.
Wilmington will go into this game following a 3-1 road loss to the Richmond Kickers last weekend. The lone goal was scored early by Andriy Bundyy allowing the Hammerheads to maintain the lead throughout the first half. But the Kickers took victory late, scoring twice in stoppage time after having previously tied the game from the penalty spot with just over 20 minutes to play.
Saturday's match against Orlando City will be Wilmington Hammerheads’ forward, Corey Hertzog’s home debut with the team. Hertzog is on a month-long loan to the Hammerheads from Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls, and played his first game with the team this past weekend against Richmond where he had two shot attempts on goal after coming on as a second-half substitute.
UPCOMING GAMES
The Hammerheads will take on the Richmond Kickes on Friday, June 15 at Legions Stadium, with kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The theme for game night is “Hollywood Night.” Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks and soccer.
