CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery (4-2-0) take on the Los Angeles Blues (3-2-2) on Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6 p.m. with kick off set for 7:30 p.m. ($10 - $18, 971-4625 / www.charlestonbattery.com). The Battery enters the match on the back of a 2-1 win against Reading United in a second round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match played Tuesday night at Blackbaud Stadium.
Saturday’s game is the Battery’s Family Night presented by Charleston Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and fans can purchase special Family Packs that include: 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas all for only $30 ($68 value). To purchase tickets please call (843) 971-4625 or visit www.charlestonbattery.com.
This is the only regular season game between Charleston and Los Angeles in 2012; in 2011 the teams also played just one game, a scoreless draw at Blackbaud Stadium on July 1.
Los Angeles also played a second round Open Cup match on Tuesday but were eliminated by the PDL’s Ventura County Fusion in overtime. The Blues played Orlando City to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening at the Citrus Bowl; they now travel to Charleston for the second game of their East-coast swing.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser will have goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra available for selection again on Saturday. Dykstra’s loan from Major League Soccer’s DC United has been extended. Both signed goalkeepers, Alec Kann and Kevin Klasila continue to rehab from injuries sustained early in the season.
Following Saturday’s game the Battery will host Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls in a third round U.S. Open Cup match at Blackbaud Stadium on Tuesday night. The Battery’s next USL PRO games are away at Pittsburgh (5/31) and Dayton (6/2) next weekend.
