W-League News Release

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

TAMPA, Fla. – The W-League announced its Team of the Week for Week 2 of the 2012 season today, honoring Colorado Rush forward Danica Evans as Player of the Week. Evans, in her second season with the Rush, scored both game-winning goals as Colorado opened the 2012 season with a pair of 1-0 victories in British Columbia.

A member of the U.S. U17 Women’s National Team, Evans scored both of her team’s goals as the Rush moved to the top of the Western Conference standings with 1-0 victories at the Vancouver Whitecaps and Victoria Highlanders. Evans is joined on the Team of the Week by Rush defender Samantha Harder, who anchored the Colorado defense that has yet to concede a goal.

London Gryphons goalkeeper Rebecca Singer was named to the team after her seven-save performance helped preserve a scoreless draw at Hamilton FC, while Hamilton defender Alexandra Craig led the defense that limited London to only two shots on goal in the same match. Rounding out the defense is Fredericksburg’s Sandra Matute, who was dominant in the back and scored on a set piece in a 3-1 victory against Northern Virginia.

The Team of the Week midfield is led by Samantha Huecker of the Charlotte Eagles, who scored the game-winner vs. FC Jax, and she is joined by Pali’s Servet Uzunlar and Taylor Parker of the Central SC Cobras. Joining Evans in the front line are former W-League Rookie of the Year Rashidah Sherman, Mikaela Howell, who scored both goals in D.C. United Women’s 2-0 win against Virginia Beach, and Fredericksburg’s Missy Wycinsky, who was dominant in her team’s victory against Northern Virginia.
