CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Lady Eagles defeated the FC Jax Destroyers 2-0 Saturday night at the Queen's Sports Complex. Samantha Huecker opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Kelsey Fenix sealed the victory in the 33rd. Charlotte dominated play outshooting FC Jax 23-2 on the night.
The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start earning a corner kick in the 3rd minute but FC Jax goalkeeper Erin Moseley handled easily.
Seven minutes later the Lady Eagles got the breakthrough as Heucker found the back of the net from 35 yards out to put Charlotte up 1-0. Gloria Douglas had a nice opportunity to score just minutes later but Moseley came up strong again in net. Moseley finished the night with nine saves.
Leah Fortune's free kick attempt narrowly missed wide and the scoreline remained 1-0.
Charlotte would go up 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Fenix found the back of the net after receiving a nice pass from Hannah Gmerek.
Just before the break FC Jax defender Ally Lee fouled Fortune inside the penalty box. Huecker stepped up to take the penalty kick but Moseley stretched out to save the shot.
Charlotte came out strong in the second half but Macky Wingo and Gloria Douglas couldn't beat Moseley in the 50th and 54th minutes, respectively. FC Jax had their best opportunity in 66th minute but the Lady Eagle defense handled the threat.
The Charlotte defense wasn't tested much during the match but came up big when it was needed and the Lady Eagle offense controlled possession the rest of the night for the 2-0 victory.
