WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads will host their North Carolina rivals the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads have yet to lose a match on their home field during the 2012 USL PRO regular season and they are looking to continue this outcome with a win against Charlotte at Legion.
The last time the Hammerheads encountered the Eagles in July 2011, the Eagles closed the gap on the Hammerheads with a 1-0 victory at Charlotte Christian Stadium. The lone goal was scored by former Eagles player Walter Moore in the 10th minute.
After being scheduled a bye weekend last week, the Hammerheads will have their first game in two weeks since they traveled to Los Angeles for a doubleheader weekend against the Los Angeles Blues. This is the Hammerheads' first home game since May 2nd when they hosted Antigua Barracuda FC – a game that resulted in a 3-0 win for the Hammerheads.
Saturday's match against the Eagles will be Wilmington Hammerheads forward Luke Holmes’ 2012 debut with the team. Holmes is a former player for the University of Akron, and the PDL's Michigan Bucks, and was invited to the 2012 adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in January of this year prior to signing with the Hammerheads. Holmes was one of 52 seniors from 31 Division 1 schools to receive and exclusive invitation.
UPCOMING GAMES
The Wilmington Hammerheads will be hosting Cal FC in the second round of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at Legion Stadium. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children. All VIP and Season Ticket holders that would like to attend the game must purchase general admission tickets; there will be no VIP tent at this match.
The Wilmington Hammerheads will take on Orlando City on Saturday, June 2 at Legion Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and the theme for game night is “Beach Night.” Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks, and soccer.
