Tampa, Fla. - United Soccer Leagues released the U13 age group qualification allotments today for the 2012 Super Y-League North American Finals presented by Umbro. A total of 16 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams from the Mid Atlantic, Midwest, New England, South Atlantic, and Southeast divisions will meet at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida, from December 7-11 to compete for the Super Y-League championship.
With 17 teams, the Mid Atlantic is the largest division in the boys U13 age group, and will receive six bids to the Finals. The Southeast Division has produced winners of two of the past three U13 Finals, including last year’s Brandon FC Flames, and will send three teams to this year’s tournament. The New England Division will also receive three bids, and the Midwest and South Atlantic divisions will each receive two.
The girls U13 age group will also have a high number of Mid Atlantic teams, as the division will receive four bids. Three of the past four teams to win the title in the U13 age group have hailed from the South Atlantic Division, but Atlanta Fire United, which produced the 2011 champions, will face tough competition to earn one of the two bids for the division. The Midwest, New England, and Southeast divisions will all receive two bids.
IMG Academies, a division of IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, is the world’s largest and most advanced multi-sport training and education complex. IMG Academies has already hosted a myriad of soccer team training camps in 2012, including clubs such as the Seattle Sounders, D.C. United, Columbus Crew, Sweden’s Malmö FF, and, most recently, the U.S. Women’s National Team preparing for the London Olympic Games.
For more than 30 years, IMG Academies has helped countless youth, adult, collegiate and professional athletes reach their full potential in and out of sport, by providing world-class coaching, tailored programs and professional facilities within an energetic environment across a 450-acre campus.
The remaining bid allocations for the U14-U17 age groups will be released during the next two weeks.
