HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of goalkeeper Brian Holt for the 2012 season. Holt joins the club after a highly decorated four-year career at Creighton University.
The Omaha, Neb. native was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008 before receiving All-MVC Second-Team honors during his sophomore and junior seasons. As a senior, Holt received NSCAA First-Team All-American honors after setting an NCAA record with a 0.207 goals against average. He was named MVC Goalkeeper of the Year and led the NCAA with 17 shutouts. He also received the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award while being named the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. His 0.62 career GAA stands as a school and league record.
Holt is also a Reading United AC alum, having played for the USL PDL team in 2011, where he was an All-Eastern Conference selection. He and Reading United lost a 2-1 decision to the City Islanders in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last season. The 5-foot-8 goalkeeper has shown great durability, staying on the field for every minute of his team’s play in 2011.
Holt joins an Islanders squad looking to duplicate their success from last year, as they return home from Saturday’s 2-2 draw against the Richmond Kickers. The team will face the Kickers twice more this season, playing host on June 1, and revisiting Richmond City Stadium on August 11.
The City Islanders’ next match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night when they welcome their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, to Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 717-441-GOAL or visit www.cityislanders.com.
