Mississippi Brilla FC News Release -- www.brillasoccer.org

Monday, April 30, 2012

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi Brilla have announced the signing of four players to round out their 2012 roster. Davis Griffin (Raleigh, N.C.), Justin Jones (Jamestown, N.C.), Phil Boerger (Jamestown, N.D.), pictured, and Kyle Culbertson (Columbus, Ohio) have all signed with Brilla for the 2012 season.

Griffin and Jones are teammates at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The pair are coming off a season where their team finished with a 10-8-2 record as their side reached the SoCon Conference Final before falling 3-2 to Elon College.

“Both Davis and Justin are good additions to our team," Mississippi Brilla FC Head Coach Dave Dixon. "Davis is a good goalkeeper that will battle for the first team spot all summer. Justin is versatile because of his athletic ability and will see time in several different positions for us this summer. I expect both players to play important roles for us.”

Boerger comes to Brilla after completing his senior season at Syracuse University. In 2011, the senior goalkeeper was named the Big East Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance against Louisville. He was an All-Conference performer at Evansville University before transferring to Syracuse.

“Phil is coming off a preseason with a USL PRO team,” Dixon said. “Unfortunately, things didn't go his way, but he is hungry to get another opportunity and will work hard all summer to get back to that level. I expect us to have a very solid goalkeeping crew this summer with a lot of competition for the spot.”

Culbertson comes to Mississippi from Columbus, Ohio where he was a member of the Columbus Crew Academy. Culbertson was a NSCAA Youth All-American and Top 50 recruit according to most scouting publications. He will be attending Columbia University in the fall.

“Kyle is a very technical player with a lot of ability on the ball," Dixon said. "He can play in the midfield or as an outside back. We are really excited about having another young, talented player on our team. I'm looking forward to watching Kyle develop this summer.”

Mississippi opens the 2012 campaign against the Ocala Stampede on Saturday, May 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Millsaps College in Jackson. In honor of Mother’s Day weekend, all Moms will be admitted free of charge. For additional ticket information, visit www.brillasoccer.org or call 601-924-3475.
