FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Fredericksburg Hotspur have announced the signings of Ryan Zinkhan, pcitured left, and Grant Silvester for the 2012 PDL season. Zinkhan, who was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2011 as well as the All-ACC Freshman team, played his high school soccer at Riverbend, in Fredericksburg, Va. His attacking style will have a huge impact on the team’s offense.
“I’m really excited to be a part of this Hotspur team,” said Zinkhan. “I’ve played with or against most of the other guys signed to the team so far, and I think we’re going to have a really good season.”
Hotspur Assistant Coach Grover Gibson sees the signings of the two players as a major endorsement of the Hotspur program.
“These guys represent the quality of players we are bringing to the Hotspur program,” he said. “Both of them saw a lot of playing time as freshmen, and they’re only going to get better, and we hope to have them as part of the team for years to come.”
Silvester, who started several games for the Cavaliers as a center back, brings depth to the squad that has signed several quality defenders to the team.
“It’s an opportunity to play against some great competition, both in training and in the games,” said Silvester. “I think the coaching staff has put together a really good team and it should be a good season.”
The Hotspur’s season kicks off on May 13th on the road against the rival Northern Virginia Royals, and will play their first home game on Saturday, May 19th, at 5:30 at the University of Mary Washington against the Virginia Beach Piranhas.
“Playing for my hometown team is a really big deal,” said Zinkhan. “I can’t wait to get out there and start the season.”
