DAYTON, Ohio -- After a disappointing loss last week against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, the Dayton Dutch Lions FC are looking to bounce back in their first home game of the season at Careflight Stadium in Springboro, Ohio as they face the Rochester Rhinos. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with the game also available online at USLNation.com.
While still looking for the club's first win of the season, Dutch Lions coach Ivar van Dinteren is feeling optimistic as the club gets its first chance to play in front of its fans.
“I am very exited to have our home opener," van Dinteren said. "This is what everybody in the club has worked very hard for over the past several months to promote the game and meet our team for the first time this season. I hope we will have a lot of orange fans in the stands but I know we will have already over 200 kids from our youth academy."
The Rhinos enter the game with a 2-0-0 record after a pair of victories against the Los Angeles Blues, and are yet to concede a goal. But while van Dinteren acknowledges the Rhinos are likely one of the favorites for the league title this season, he believes his side can offer a good challenge.
"Rochester is an established and good team and they got off with a perfect start," van Dinteren said. "But after the second half in Pittsburgh we are very confident to challenge them. We might make some slight changes tactically compared to our first two games. I sense the boys have been very eager all week, especially after picking up a 2-0 win against Bowling Green University. They have been waiting for this game for some time now and can't wait to show what they can do for our fans.”
Saturday's game is the first of three in a row at home for the Dutch Lions after opening the season with two games on the road. After facing the Rhinos they will play the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, May 5 and then the Los Angeles Blues on Friday, May 11. For season and individual game tickets, visit the Dutch Lions website.
