CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The current USL-2 champion Charleston Battery will take on the current USSF D2-Pro League champion Puerto Rico Islanders in each team’s final preseason match at Blackbaud Stadium on Tuesday, April 5; kick of is set for 5:30 p.m. There will be no charge for admission or parking and there will be a limited concessions menu available at the match, the Three Lions Pub will also be open to the public beginning at 5 p.m.
“This will be an excellent game for us to finish up our preseason as Puerto Rico always has a solid squad and is the reigning 2010 D2 champion,” Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser said.
The Charleston Battery defeated the Richmond Kickers 2-1 to win the 2010 USL-2 championship last August. The Puerto Rico Islanders won a two-match series with the Carolina RailHawks to win the USSF D2-Pro League championship last September.
The Battery last played the Islanders on June 25, 2009 when both teams were competing in USL-1. The Battery defeated the Islanders 1-0 in that match with Randi Patterson scoring the lone goal.
The Charleston Battery kicks off the 2011 USL PRO season on Saturday, April 9 with a 7:30 PM match versus the Charlotte Eagles at Blackbaud Stadium ($10-$18, (843) 971-4625 / charlestonbattery.com).
