ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield jointly announced a new partnership for the 2012 season that will feature the health insurance company based in Rochester, New York as the new jersey sponsor for the Rhinos' professional team. The jerseys will be officially unveiled Saturday, May 5th at the Rochester Rhinos' home opener against the Charlotte Eagles, with the Excellus BCBS logo prominently featured on the Rhinos' iconic black and white striped kit.
"Part of our mission is to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve," said Carl Devore, M.D., associate medical director, Excellus BCBS. "In this case, we are supporting an organization that is a community asset while also encouraging families to engage in healthy activities such as soccer."
The jersey sponsorship deal will only be the beginning of the Rochester Rhinos and Excellus BCBS working relationship this season. Excellus BCBS will also be the jersey sponsor for the Rhinos' six youth teams beginning in July 2012.
“The Rochester Rhinos organization puts a great deal of emphasis on healthy lifestyle choices by our athletes.” Rhinos President and Chief Operating Officer Pat Ercoli said. “As professional athletes our players have an opportunity to be role models in our community, specifically young people who tend to look up to athletes. With our unique position in the community and our ability to model healthy choices, it only makes sense for us to partner with the largest nonprofit health plan in upstate New York.”
The Rochester Rhinos have also announced a new partnership with Big City Sportswear to be the exclusive apparel vendor of the club for the 2012 season. The Rhinos and Big City Sportswear have launched a new website at www.rhinosgear.com so fans can purchase their official 2012 match jerseys and other apparel on-line. Big City Sports will also be selling Rhinos merchandise in the stadium on match days.
Tickets are on sale for the Rhinos home opener on Saturday, May 5th at 7 p.m. by calling Sahlen’s Stadium box office at (585) 454-5425, or by ordering through Ticketmaster online or at any of their retail outlets.
