FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Fredericksburg Hotspur are pleased to announce the signings of Dale Robins-Bailey, Karel Manrau, pictured, and Colin Newcity, all from James Madison University, to their 2012 roster. All three were crucial in the success of the 2011 Dukes, who reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
"I'm really excited to be able to play at a high level this summer for the Hotspur," said Manrau, who can play in both the midfield and defense. "The club has signed a number of players who are going to make us really competitive this season."
Assistant Coach Grover Gibson said he's impressed with what he's seen both on and off the field from the new additions to the club.
"These are players who are not only important on the field, but their off-field demeanor is going to be great in the locker room, training, and in the overall attitude we're instilling in the Hotspur organization," said Gibson.
"I'm looking forward to playing against some top-quality opposition this summer," Robins-Bailey, a 6-foot-4 center back, said, "especially since I'll be playing alongside several of my college teammates."
Newcity is the starter in goal for the Dukes, and said he is excited about "the change of scenery" and thinks this is going to be a really big year for the Hotspur.
The trio of players join several several members from Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as former professional players Gibson, Travis Mulraine, and Evans Wise, in what is shaping up to be a solid team for the 2012 season.
