CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Eagles will host the Harrisburg City Islanders Friday night at Charlotte Christian stadium at 7 p.m. as the Eagles look for their first victory of the USL PRO season.
This game will end the Eagles' opening homestand of four games in 13 days. The first three games were at different locations around the area, including Tuesday night's defeat to the Charleston Battery at Winthrop University, but now the Eagles are looking forward to getting back to their home routine at Charlotte Christian.
The Eagles are still looking for their first goal of the season. While the side continues to strengthen in the midfield and defense, it now need to orchestrate the finishing touch in the penalty area. Mauricio Salles came close to breaking the Eagles' dry spell on Tuesday night, making a major impact off the bench when he was brought on at halftime against the Battery.
The City Islanders will open their 2012 USL PRO season on Friday night. The team comes off a very successful 2011 season which saw them win the USL PRO National Division, losing to Orlando in the USL PRO Championship game 3-2 in penalty kicks after they had played the Lions to a 2-2 draw through regulation and overtime.
The Islanders have a good portion of their 2011 squad returning, including defender Andrew Marshall, midfielder Andrew Welker and forward Sainey Touray, while the coaching staff feels confident in the club's new acquisitions, which include former Vancouver Whitecaps defender Bilal Duckett.
