City Islanders Sign Zizzi

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of defender/midfielder Colin Zizzi. The Carlisle, Pa. native returns to the Harrisburg area after a successful four seasons at American University.

Zizzi was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all four years with the Eagles. He was also named the team’s most valuable player for his senior season. He was selected to the Patriot League All-Tournament team that year, where he started all 19 games.

Following his time with the Eagles, Zizzi spent time in Spain, playing for Vallecas Futbol Club in Madrid.

The 24-year old also had a strong four years playing at Carlisle High School, where he earned four varsity letters. He tallied 44 points
(13 goals) during the course of his final season. He was named Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division Player of the Year that season and also received all-state and regional All-American recognition.

Head Coach Bill Becher praised the versatility Zizzi brings to the pitch, saying, “Colin is a good addition to the roster. He can play several different positions and can really play them well.”

Zizzi and the Islanders look to build off of their successful 2011 season, where they won the USL PRO National Division and advanced to the league championship game. The team’s 2012 season will begin on Friday night in North Carolina as the Islanders travel to take on the Charlotte Eagles. They will open the home portion of the schedule on Friday, May 4 when the Eagles make the return trip to Skyline Sports Complex for a 7 p.m. start.
