Charlotte Eagles News Release -- www.charlotteeagles.com

Monday, April 16, 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Eagles will host the Charleston Battery on Tuesday night at Winthrop University at 7 p.m. aiming for their first victory of the season. The Eagles claimed their first point of the season this past Friday night, playing to a 0-0 draw against the Dayton Dutch Lions, and are working to find the chemistry to score goals while maintaining their defensive solidity that saw them record their first shutout of the season against Dayton.

Charleston, which like the Eagles is celebrating its 20th season, has also played a pair of games this season, both against the Richmond Kickers. The Battery were able to open in Richmond with a 2-1 win, Jose Cuevas scoing both goals, but were unable to hold a halftime lead this past Saturday as the Kickers took a 2-1 win at Blackbaud Stadium.

The rivalry between the Battery and the Eagles continued last season with the Battery preventing Charlotte from advancing to the playoffs. In a dramatic season finale, the Battery took a 4-3 victory to claim the final place in the playoffs, leaving the Eagles on the outside looking in.

That victory allowed the Battery to complete an undefeated season against the Eagles a season ago, and the Eagles will try to turn the tide this year. Charleston has never been an easy match-up for Charlotte, but many of their meetings have been incredibly exciting matches.

Tickets for Tuesday night's game are still available for purchase at the gate or online. After Tuesday's match the Eagles are back at Charlotte Christian this Friday night, April 20th, against the Harrisburg City Islanders. Eagles season tickets and game tickets can be purchased online at www.CharlotteEagles.com. For group rates contact the Eagles office at 704-841-8644 ext. 27.
