EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso Patriots are proud to announce the signing of four players from NCAA power the University of New Mexico. Casey Philips, Victor Rodriguez, Lawrence Robledo, and Javier Lane will join the Patriots squad for the 2012 season. The University of New Mexico finished the 2011 regular season as the No.1-ranked team in the nation after an undefeated regular season, and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament before being knocked out by the University of South Florida.
Philips has previously trained with Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake and was the top recruit for University of New Mexico. Rodriguez started every game for New Mexico in 2011, posting an 18-0-3 record and 0.50 goals against average. He also posted 10 shutouts, and was named to the National Team of the Week twice.
Robledo is a standout midfielder, this past fall scoring a pair of goals in 15 appearances, while Lane an outstanding young goalkeeper who backed up Rodriguez admirably in his three appearances, not conceding a goal.
The El Paso Patriots will open their 2012 season Saturday, May 5 against the West Texas Sockers at Grande Communication Stadium in Midland, Texas.
