JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi Brilla FC is proud to announce the signing of four local players. Jonathan Brown (Clinton, Miss.), Stephen Roberson (Madison, Miss.), Jake Files (Clinton, Miss.) and Sina Mofidi (Madison, Miss.) have all been added to the Premier Development League roster for the 2012 season.
Brown currently plays at the University of Kentucky where he completed his freshmen season appearing in 16 games for the Wildcats as a defender. Brown was a member of the USA Men's U17 National Team during his youth career, and was a two-time all-state selection at Clinton High School. He played for the Chicago Fire Junior's youth club.
“Jonathan is a tremendous athlete and has a great future in the game. I fully expect him to both compete for a spot in the first team, and develop a lot over the summer. We are really excited to have him involved in our team,” said Brilla head coach Dave Dixon.
Roberson finished his freshmen season at the University of Tulsa playing in 11 games. Roberson scored three goals and had four assists during a great freshmen campaign. He was a four-year letterman at Madison Central High School, where he scored 44 goals and had 51 assists for 139 career points. He was a youth club teammate of Brown with the Chicago Fire Juniors.
“Stephen had a very good freshman season for Tulsa and was an important part of their attack. He has the versatility to play in several different positions and I think he will add a lot to the attacking part of our team,” Dixon said.
Files joins the PDL team fresh off being named Mr. Soccer in the State of Mississippi. He led Clinton High School to their ninth Boy's Soccer State Championship this past season. Files was also named All-State goalkeeper during the 2012 season. He is a member of the Brilla Juniors 94B youth team.
“Jake had a great tryout and I'm looking forward to watching him develop over the summer," Dixon said. "It will be a difficult transition for a young goalkeeper, but Jake has a tremendous work ethic and I know he will adjust quickly. It is nice to see one of the players from our youth club make the transition to the PDL team.”
Mofidi comes to the team after completing his junior season with Madison Central High School. Sina has played within the Chicago Fire Juniors organization, as well as several other youth teams in the Metro Jackson area.
“Sina will be one of the youngest players in the league this summer,” said Dixon. “He played well at the open tryout and earned a spot on the team based on his performance. He is a very technical player and will fit into our style of play well. It will take time for him to adjust to the physical aspect of the league, but I expect him to develop a lot over the summer.”
Mississippi Brilla FC opens the season May 12th against the Ocala Stampede. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Harper Davis Field on the campus of Millsaps College. For ticket information visit www.brillasoccer.org or call 601-924-3475.
