READING, Pa. – Reading United officially welcome back five players from the 2011 season, four of which will be making their second appearances in Reading. Brian Forgue, Steven Neumann, Stephen Okai and Sean Peckham will all rejoin the team for sophomore campaigns, while Ged Quinn, pictured, will return for his fifth season with the United.
Forgue played in seven games for United before an injury shortened his summer. During the 2011 with Penn State, the defender played in 16 games for the Nittany Lions, starting 14. His lone goal at Penn State this past season was a game winner against Saint Francis on September 14th. Forgue was a two-time NSCAA High School Boys’ All-America First Team honoree before committing to Happy Valley.
Neumann followed up his First Team All-Freshman nod by Soccer America in 2010 with a stellar 2011 season for Georgetown, where he tallied 11 goals and seven assists. His efforts in midfield for the Hoyas garnered him first team NSCAA All-Northeast Region first team honors, as well as a first team All-BIG EAST nomination. With the United last season, Neumann found netting once, as well as dishing out one assist in nine games.
Okai played in 13 games for Reading last season, scoring three goals from his holding midfield position. While playing for the University of Mobile (NAIA) this past fall, Okai tallied six goals and 11 assists en route to being named Second Team NAIA All-American, after being named First Team in 2010.
Peckham picked up first team All-Patriot League honors for the second straight season, as well as a second team NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region nod after a one goal, six assist effort in 2011 for Lafayette. In Reading last summer, Peckham scored three goals in a nine game run.
Quinn has been “old faithful” in Reading’s backline for the past four seasons, including a 14-game stretch in 2011 for the United. His ability to shift between center back and left back has proved invaluable year in and year out for Reading. A Lenoir-Rhyne graduate and England native, Quinn has scored four goals with three assists during his time with the United.
