USL PRO News Release

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO announced its Team of the Week for the opening week of the 2012 season today, honoring Charleston Battery midfielder Jose Cuevas as Player of the Week after he scored a pair of goals to lead his side to a 2-1 victory against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday evening.

Cuevas, who was making his professional debut after spending 2011 with the PDL’s Fresno Fuego, opened the scoring in the 41st minute and added a second in the 67th, which proved to be the game-winner.

Cuevas was joined on the Team of the Week by teammate Colin Falvey, who played a solid game at the heart of the Battery’s defense. Orlando City goalkeeper Sean Kelley took the goalkeeping spot after recording four saves, including one on a penalty kick, to help the Lions take a 2-0 win in Charlotte.

Elsewhere, Antigua’s Stefan Smith was recognized for his two-goal performance in the Barracudas’ 3-1 victory on Sunday against Pittsburgh, while the Riverhounds’ Mike Seth was selected after scoring the opening goal of the USL PRO season in his side’s 1-0 win on Friday night in Antigua.
