OCALA, Fla. -- The Ocala Stampede are pleased to announce the signing of New York goal-scoring prospect Anthony Asante for the club's inaugural season in the PDL. The Ghanian-born Asante played two seasons at NJCAA Monroe College in the Bronx, New York, where he was a two-time NJCAA Division I All-American. He led the Mustangs to the 2011 NJCAA Division I Tournament Finals and 2010 Semifinals. Asante was named to the 2010 and 2011 NJCAA Division I All-Tournament Team.
Asante recorded 62 points on 23 goals and 10 assists in his two seasons at Monroe and was a team captain in his sophomore year. Due to Asante's goal-scoring prowess, speed and power he quickly got on the radar of a host of NCAA Division I Colleges, with Asante choosing to head to Syracuse, who moved in quickly to secure his services this coming fall.
''Asante is a huge talent who has scored goals for fun in junior college," Stampede coach Anderson DaSilva said. "That natural goalscoring ability will transfer over I have no doubt to a successful campaign this coming fall with Syracuse and we are excited to be working with him this summer."
Stampede Technical Director Matt Weston was also excited about the club's latest addition, and grateful to the Monroe College coaches who made it possible.
“Anthony will bring a different dynamic to the Stampede this summer," Weston said. "We wanted to thank Head Coach Marcus DiBernardo and Assistant Steve Burnstin from Monroe for helping make this deal happen and we are delighted that Anthony has chosen the Stampede for our first year in the PDL."
