ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Soccer Club announced today the signing of Defender Kyle Davies. Davies, who was captain of the United States Under-20 team in 2009, has been in training with Orlando since the Disney Pro Soccer Classic in February.
Davies joined the U.S. Soccer Residency’s Program in August of 2005, playing with the U.S. U-17 National Team. He was named to the U.S. U-20 roster for the 2009 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago. Davies captained and started all five U.S. games in the tournament. He was chosen to become a member of the U-20 roster for the U-20 World Cup in Egypt later that year. He totaled 12 caps for the U.S. U-20 team in 2009.
Davies began his professional career with English side Southampton FC, playing for their youth and reserve squads from 2007-2009. Coming back to the United States after his time in England, Davies signed a deal with the Major League Soccer in early 2009.
Davies joined Real Salt Lake in 2009 before being traded to FC Dallas in April of that year. He made his debut for Dallas on June 13, 2009 in a game against the Houston Dynamo. The California native made a total of 14 appearances for Dallas, including 12 starts between the 2009 and ’10 MLS seasons. The defender joined the Los Angeles Galaxy after his two years in Dallas.
The defender was traded from the Galaxy to Toronto in September, being waived by the Canadian club two months later. He began training with Orlando at the end of February, right around the start of the Disney PSC.
“We’ve gained someone with a lot of experience for the young age of 22,” said Orlando City coach Adrian Heath. “We’ve only had him in training for a bit but I can already tell he can develop into a great player that can eventually get back into the MLS.”
