HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of Garret Pettis for the 2012 USL PRO season. Pettis joins the club after a successful four-year career at Lipscomb University where he was named a first-team Atlantic Sun selection for both his junior and senior seasons while being named the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year after the 2008 season. Pettis owns Lipscomb records for most goals in a game, season and career. He was also the leading scorer in the Atlantic Sun during his four years with 77 points.
Pettis certainly has a lot of familiarity with the club, having grown up in nearby Elizabethtown, Pa. The 2008 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School was also a member of the Islanders Youth Academy. With one of the primary goals of the academy being to groom the members into being the best soccer players they can be, the City Islanders are extremely pleased for those involved with the academy to see a former youth player join the ranks of professional soccer.
“Garret is a player we have seen for quite some time through the academy program,” said Islander Coach Bill Becher. “He has excelled at every level he has played, and has always scored goals. We are excited to add him to our roster.”
Pettis and the City Islanders will begin their 2012 campaign on Friday, April 20 in North Carolina where they will travel to take on the Charlotte Eagles. They will open their home portion of the regular season against Charlotte on Saturday, May 4.
