ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Rhinos defeated Colgate University 2-0 in their third match of the 2012 preseason on Friday night at Sahlen’s Stadium. Rhinos coach Jesse Myers made nine changes to the team that defeated Binghamton University 4-0 last Saturday, with only German goalkeeper Kristian Nicht, one of Myer’s most high profile international signings during the off-season, and right back Jack Traynor returned to the starting line-up. Five of Myer’s starters were on trial as he tried to evaluate the talent he had in training camp under game conditions.

The Rhinos opened the scoring off a set piece in the 55th minute. Trialist Evans Frimpong served a corner kick to the near post. Front runner Andrew Hoxie made a near post run and flicked the ball onto the far post with a header. Trialist Kendall McFayden was on the far post and beat the Colgate keeper to give the Rhinos a 1-0 lead.

The Rhinos doubled their lead two minutes later when central midfielder Drew Cost played trialist right back Jimmy Lannon through on the right flank. Lannon served the ball in from the right flank and trialist central midfielder Gary Boughton was there for the volley to give the Rhinos a 2-0 lead.

Nicht and second year Rhinos goalkeeper Joe Marino shared the clean sheet.

Colgate University featured junior Mike Reidy, a native of Webster. Reidy stared for Webster Thomas High School. He recorded 12 goals and 14 assists as a senior when he was named the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year. Reidy was named All-Greater Rochester Co-Player of the Year as a junior. He finished his high school career with 55 goals and 40 assists. Thomas had a 60-10-12 record during Reidy’s tenure and won three Section V Championships and three Western Regional Titles. He has scored 12 goals and added 11 assists in his first three years with Colgate.

The Rhinos' next preseason game is Sunday at 4 p.m. against the University of Buffalo at Sahlen’s Stadium. Admission to the match is free.
