HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of Bilal Duckett for the 2012 season, pending USSF approval. The 23-year-old makes the move to USL PRO after spending the 2011 season in Major League Soccer with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Duckett made four appearances for the Whitecaps in 2011, logging 226 minutes in his first professional season. The Notre Dame product was the first pick in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
As a member of the Fighting Irish, Duckett served as the team’s starting right fullback for his junior and senior seasons. He was named a Big East Conference Academic All-Star for both of these years.
Duckett joins a strong backline in Harrisburg that was one of the team’s strengths in 2011, when the club won the USL PRO National Division title and was runner-up in the USL PRO Championship game. The team begins their 2012 campaign Friday, April 20 in North Carolina against the Charlotte Eagles. The Eagles will then make the return trip as the Islanders will open their home portion of the schedule on Friday, May 4 against Charlotte at Skyline Sports Complex.
