ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos have signed Scott Vallow as their goalkeeping coach for the 2012 season.
“I’m extremely pleased that we have been able to add Scott Vallow to our coaching staff.” Rhinos Head Coach Jesse Myers said. “When we heard that Billy (Andracki) was not going to return to the staff this year it was a big loss. However, I think Vallow is the right man for the job right now. His experience in the USL and MLS will give our goalkeepers a great resource to draw from this season.”
Vallow played with the Rhinos from 2000 to 2002 and then returned to the team from 2005 to 2010 after a two-year stint in Major League Soccer with Colorado from 2003 to 2004. Vallow retired from the Rhinos after the 2010 season as the club’s all-time leader in goalkeeper wins, saves, and shutouts. He won back-to-back A-League Championships with Rochester in 2000 and 2001. He also won the USSF Division Two Regular Season Title with the Rhinos in 2010. Last season Vallow was the goalkeeping coach with the Western New York Flash (WPS), and he captured his first honors as a coach winning the 2011 WPS Cup at Sahlen’s Stadium.
"I'm very excited to join the Rhinos coaching staff and make a difference in the club that I played with for nine seasons and where we won two Championships." Vallow said. "The timing is right for me to get my feet in the men's game and I look forward to growing the Rhinos brand in 2012. I'm excited to work with Jesse and Bill and also to be able to bring my experience from last year with the WNY Flash to the Rhinos both on and off the field."
Vallow will be charged with coaching German goalkeeper Kristian Nicht while developing young keepers Brandon Miller and Joe Marino for the 2012 season. Nicht appeared in 18 Bundesliga matches for Alemannia Aachen during the 2006-2007 season. He has nine years of professional experience playing in Germany and Norway. Rhinos Head Coach Jesse Myers has brought in Nicht to replace last year’s starting goalkeeper Neal Kitson. Kitson left the Rhinos at the conclusion of the 2012 International Transfer window for Northampton Town F.C. of England's League One.
