PONTIAC, Mich. -- For the fourth consecutive year, the Michigan Bucks College Cup will invade Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Mich. on Saturday, March 24 for four top college games all for one low price (ONLY $8 PRESALE). The highly popular event will be followed up on Saturday, March 31 when the Bucks College Cup II takes center stage. The second College Cup will feature there full length games including both men's and women's college programs from the area and around the country.
The first College Cup event will feature four back-to-back games beginning with NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson College taking on the Michigan Wolverines and first year head coach Chaka Daly (1:30 p.m. kick off). Lindsey Wilson will play back-to-back games when they take on local favorite Oakland University (3:10 p.m. kick off). The third game of the day may be a prelude to this fall's college playoffs when perennial power Notre Dame takes on the Wolverines at 4:50 p.m. The grand finale of the tournament will feature the rebuilt Oakland University Grizzlies tacking the highly ranked Fighting Irish at 6:30 p.m.
Bucks head coach Gary Parsons looks forward to the annual tournament for more than just being able to witness top notch soccer first hand.
"We use these teams as feeder teams for the Bucks programs each year and this gives me a great opportunity to see the talent that I am going to be coaching six weeks from now," Parsons said. "Oakland, Michigan and Lindsey Wilson have been three of the college programs that the Bucks have been built around the past 16 years and we expect big things from their top players this summer as well."
Although he declined to identify which players have committed to the Bucks or who the newcomers are for fans to watch out for, Parsons provided a pretty simple answer for Bucks fans.
"Anyone you see that stands out on Saturday is probably a player that has committed to us or is on our radar screen," he said. "We hope to see a few more players emerge that we haven't seen enough from yet. Each year a player that wasn't in our plans rises up from the College Cup and makes us take notice."
The Bucks are proud to have adidas sponsor the event for the past four years. The first 500 kids that enter the arena will receive a FREE Michigan Bucks College Cup adidas t-shirt. In addition, at halftime of all four games, the Bucks will be raffling off free adidas replica jerseys from your favorite teams around the world, as well as game balls and autographed MLS jerseys. Bucks Chairman/ CEO Dan Duggan is proud to have the relationship with adidas, which has helped make this a huge event each March.
"Not only do the fans get to see top quality college players for the price of a movie, but they get a glimpse of many future MLS players and the stars of tomorrow that will be spending their summer entertaining us all right here at Ultimate Soccer from May- July," Duggan said. "I know the kids love the quality of the soccer and being able to interact with the players and to get autographs, but for many the highlight is walking out of the building with free merchandise and autographed adidas jerseys. This will be a great event for everyone."
