JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi Brilla FC is proud to announce the signing of two experienced veteran players in locals Michael Brown (Clinton, Miss.) and Phillip Buffington (Jackson, Miss.). Both Brown and Buffington have been part of the Brilla organization since their inaugural season in 2007.
"Michael and Phillip will bring a level of experience and maturity to the 2012 team," said Head Coach Dave Dixon. "Their leadership on and off the field will be vital to our success this year."
Brown played at Clinton High School, and then went on to have a great career at Stanford University where he captained the team. His versatility is a plus for the coaching staff, as he is able to play as both a defender and a midfielder.
"Michael is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached," said Dixon. "His play is consistent, and you always know what kind of effort and performance you will get when he steps on the field."
Buffington played at Jackson Prep, and then played college soccer at Marshall University and Mississippi College. Buffington played a season for the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO, as well as a season in Australia with Wollogong. At each level and stop in his career he has been a proven goal scorer.
"Buff brings a lot of good experience to our attack," Dixon said. "He has the athletic ability to impact every game and is very dangerous in and around the goal."
The Brilla kick off the 2012 season with a home game against the Ocala Stampede on Saturday, May 12th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Harper Davis Field on the campus of Millsaps College. For ticket information visit www.brillasoccer.org or call the office at 601-924-3475.
