Battery's Caskey Heads To Seattle

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Midfielder Alex Caskey has been transferred to Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders; per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms were not disclosed. Caskey enjoyed an excellent rookie season with the Charleston Battery in 2011 playing 22 games, scoring one goal with one assist. Caskey is the third player to join the Seattle Sounders from the Charleston Battery, Osvaldo Alonso and Lamar Neagle both played with the Battery before moving up to the Sounders.

A native of Dunwoody, Ga., the 5-foot-10, 152 pound 23-year-old was originally selected by Seattle in the third round (47th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Caskey played centrally and as a wide midfielder for the Battery in 2011. Prior to turning pro Caskey did not miss a game during his four years at Davidson starting all 76 matches.

Caskey is the second Charleston Battery players from the 2011 season to make the jump to Major League Soccer; goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra joined D.C. United during the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Charleston Battery home opener – Saturday April 14

The Charleston Battery home opener is set for Saturday, April 14 at Blackbaud Stadium against the Richmond Kickers; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game is the official kick off celebration for the Battery’s 20th anniversary season, the team will be wearing special ‘retro ‘93’ jerseys and there will be fireworks immediately following the match.
