LOS ANGELES, Ca. - The Pali Blues are pleased to announce the addition of Servet Uzunlar to the team for the 2012 W-League season. The 23-year-old is a current member of the Australian National Team and is coming off her third season with Sydney FC of the Australian Westfield W-League.
“We are pleased to add a versatile player with World Cup experience,” said Pali Blues head coach Charlie Naimo. “Servet’s experience in various positions and her desire to compete will be very valuable to us this season.”
Uzunlar has enjoyed great success with Syndey FC over the years winning a league championship in 2010, and making an appearance in the final in 2011. This season, Sydney FC fell just short of the championship match in January after losing in the semifinals against Brisbane Roar in a penalty shootout.
In addition to her club’s success, Uzunlar has international achievements to be proud of. She adds to her résumé a 2010 AFC Asia Cup championship, which qualified Australia for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where the team reached the quarterfinals. She was one of the four players that started and played every minute of every match in her team.
Uzunlar, who has appeared in 26 matches and scored one goal for her country, shared her thoughts on playing for the Blues this summer.
“I’m so excited and fortunate that I am able to play for Pali Blues this season,” she said. “Playing in the States has always been a goal of mine, so I can’t wait to get over to LA and join the team.”
