HARRISBURG, PA. -- The highly explosive, highly energetic Sainey Touray has re-signed with the Harrisburg City Islanders for the 2012 season, pending USSF approval, bringing the 22-year old forward back after he played a big role in the team’s offense last season.
Touray made 21 appearances for the City Islanders in 2011, his first full season with the club. He also spent a portion of 2010 with the team on loan from the Carolina RailHawks. He bagged seven goals and six assists last season, finishing second on the team with 20 points.
The Gambian native is well-traveled despite his young age, beginning his career at age 13 with Tallinding United of the Gambian Second Division. He made appearances on both Gambia’s U-17 and U-20 teams and also had a brief appearance in 2008 with the New York Red Bulls.
The City Islanders will look for Touray to build off of his great performance last season as the team won the USL PRO National Division title.
“Sainey was a big part of our success,” Head Coach Bill Becher said. “He scored goals, set them up, and caused a lot of problems for opposing defenses. We look forward to him having an even more productive season in 2012.”
Touray and the City Islanders' 2012 campaign begins on Friday, April 20 in North Carolina against the Charlotte Eagles. The Eagles will also be the opponent for Harrisburg’s home opener on Friday, May 4 at Skyline Sports Complex.
