FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Fredericksburg Hotspur has announced that Carl Gray will be returning for a second season as the team's head coach for the 2012 PDL campaign.
"I am excited to be a part of the 2012 Hotspur PDL team," said Gray, a veteran coach who has also played an important role in Virginia's Olympic Development Program for years. "We are in the process of putting together a team we think will contend for the South Atlantic division title."
This year Hotspur will face several returning foes from the 2011 season, including the Carolina Dynamo, Virginia Beach Piranhas, Northern Virginia Royals, Real Maryland Monarchs and the West Virginia Chaos.
"Carl has a wealth of experience and has worked with high-level players at both FASA and ODP for many years," said FASA General Manager Pete Cinalli. "He did a good job in our inaugural season and with the new players we are adding in 2012, I feel we are poised to have a very special and exciting season."
"We're building on our inaugural 2011 season, and our program is attracting players that want to take themselves and the Hotspur to the next level," Gray added. "I look forward to working with these players, a majority of whom have played, or are playing, at a Division I level."
Hotspur and the rest of the returning South Atlantic division also welcome three new teams to the schedule, as the Palmetto FC Bantams, Southern West Virginia King's Warriors and Nashville Metros will all add to the intense competition for the division championship, as well as a berth in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
"We are fully committed to making our Hotspur PDL team one of the nation's best. We've provided Carl all the tools necessary to be successful at the highest level and believe he is right choice to get the job done," said Cinalli.
