Los Angeles Blues News Release -- www.labluesprosoccer.com

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Los Angeles Blues are excited to announce they have secured the services of former Bethesda Christian University standout and Republic of Korea native Cho Sunhyung. Prior to joining the Blues, the 23-year-old plied his trade in his home country with second division outfit Seosan Omega before making his way across the Pacific to play his college ball in Orange County while also suiting up for the Fullerton Rangers.

Blues Associate Head Coach Shayon Jalayer explained why the coaching staff is convinced Cho has what it takes to successfully complete the transition from the Rangers to their professional cross-town neighbors.

“When it comes to our backline, we’re not looking for grunts who only know how to win tackles and headers but for guys who also know what to do with the ball at their feet,” Jalayer said. “Cho is that kind of player who has both the intelligence and the technical ability to find solutions under pressure. In addition to that he’s very fit, so he really brings a variety of elements to the table that we like.”

The skilled defender has been in camp with the Blues for several weeks and turned in a strong performance against the Mexican U-20 national team on February 28. While staying true to his humble and team-oriented mentality, he did allow himself to think big for just a moment as he looked ahead to the upcoming USL PRO campaign.

“I’m very excited to be part of such a talented group of players,” he said. “I really think 2012 could turn out to be a very good year both for the team and for me individually. Part of that is having great coaches who want to play a style that is all about keeping possession. That really suits me. My objective is to make the Blues better whenever I’m on the field and to help them accomplish whatever goals the coaching staff will set. Of course, winning the championship would be a dream come true.”
