Kickers Unveil New Logo, Uniforms

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers kicked off the 20th Anniversary season and went retro Tuesday afternoon when they unveiled their new logo on their official third uniform. The logo, designed by Richmond-based branding firm yogg, blends the dynamic passion of the beautiful game with the club’s mission to entertain, invite community participation and inspire all.

“We have always been on the cutting edge, working passionately as the model of American soccer,” said Rob Ukrop, Richmond Kickers President. “Moving forward, the vision of our brand is to continue to evolve, providing quality experiences for our fans, our players, and our partners.”

The logo, which will be used as the professional team’s primary logo effective immediately, is a combination of symbolic elements to reflect the distinct history, culture and tradition of the Richmond Kickers, as well as the vision for the organization.

The unique pentagon shape is inspired by the classic soccer ball panel, while the motion of the exploding “K” of soccer balls reflects the tradition of the original 1993 flying soccer ball logo with the modern representation embracing the next generation of soccer players and fans. The outer radiant bands portray the ripple effect of the Kickers vertically integrated club structure. With the professional team at the pinnacle, the inspirational environment for player development radiates to all levels of the club, from youth to the pros.

The logo is highlighted by the Kickers energetic red color, the club’s predominant color since the 2001 season, emphasizing the passion for the players, fans and city while representing the strong tradition that the club has established in the community. White, the secondary color of the club, reflects the purity and precision of the beautiful game.

yogg, Richmond Kickers’ official marketing partner, also created a custom Richmond Kickers font that combines elements of the club’s innovation and visionary approach to the sport with the industrial grit of the city's past.

“We strive to create a strong, vibrant connection to our region through our exceptional youth programming and our nationally renowned professional team,” added Ukrop. “Our leadership team believes the club’s modern re-branding embraces the next 20 years and the second generation of fans and players. We now have a unique, identifiable logo that rivals any soccer club in the world.”

The retro uniforms, created by adidas, pay homage to 20 years of professional soccer in Richmond. Modeled by midfielders David Bulow and Gerson dos Santos and assistant coach/goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale, the jersey and shorts feature a classic design in the Kickers’ original green and blue colors from 1993. In addition to the unique color scheme, the retro look features the adidas three-stripes and red accents, which inspired the Kickers modern red strip. The official third uniform will be worn at select games in 2012, including the 20th Anniversary home opener against the Charleston Battery on April 7th.
