WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads are pleased to announce that they are bringing back former 2009 Hammerhead standout, midfielder Mark Briggs, pending USSF approval. Briggs was previously with the Hammerheads in 2009 and was voted team MVP while leading the squad to the 2009 USL Second Division regular season title, resulting in one of the winningest seasons for the Hammerheads franchise.
“I'm really looking forward to and excited about returning to the Hammerheads, especially after the success we had in 2009,” said Briggs. “Hopefully with fantastic support from the team and our fans we can achieve that goal again. I really enjoyed my time in Wilmington and I’m excited to get back to a community that supports soccer.”
During the 2009 season, Briggs played in 20 Hammerhead games, scoring one goal and contributing two assists, while taking eight shots on goal overall. Following the end of the American season, Briggs signed for Mosta of the Maltese First Division in October 2009. In February 2010, the Charleston Battery announced the signing of Briggs on loan then after the remaining season, he joined Mosta again for the new season, returning to Malta.
A native of Wolverhampton, England, Briggs is well traveled and highly experienced in the industry. Since the beginning of his professional career, Briggs has not only played with leagues in the United States and Malta, but in Denmark and England as well.
