Wednesday, February 29, 2012

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Harrisburg City Islanders announced their 2012 preseason schedule, which will feature a host of top collegiate talent as the Islanders prepare for their quest for the 2012 USL PRO Championship. The seven-game preseason slate kicks off with a battle between the islands as Harrisburg hosts Long Island University on Friday, March 23rd at Millersville University. The action starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes free admission for all fans.

The schedule features two other home games, when the team hosts the St. Francis Red Flash and the Villanova Wildcats on March 24th and April 15th, respectively. Both of these games will be played at Lower Dauphin Middle School and are open to all fans. The St. Francis game is slated to start at 12:30 p.m, while the Villanova match kicks off at 5 p.m. The Islanders will travel to Temple University to square off against the Owls on March 28th and then head to Drexel for a date with the Dragons on April 5th.

Other highlights of the preseason will include a road game on April 11th against the Penn State Nittany Lions, 2011 Big Ten Tournament finalists and an April 28th match up against ACC powerhouse the University of Maryland, a team that advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last fall. That contest will take place after the City Islanders open up regular season play on April 20-21 in North Carolina.

On display during the preseason contests will be a number of local players including Penn State’s Daniel Parr (Lower Dauphin), Maryland’s Alex Shinsky (West York Area), St. Francis’s Trevor Shull (Carlisle High) and Long Island’s Brice Merwine (Carlisle High).
Former Islander Tom Booth will also be making a return to Harrisburg as Assistant Coach of Long Island.

The City Islanders will open their home portion of the 2012 regular season on Friday, May 4th when they host the Charlotte Eagles at 7 p.m. at the Skyline Sports Complex. The team will enjoy an extended home stand a few weeks later, when they will play six consecutive games on City Island from a May 16th contest against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds through their June 15th match up against Rochester. Both single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting cityislanders.com or calling 717-441-GOAL.
