CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery take on Major League Soccer’s D.C. United on Wednesday night at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island, S.C. on the second matchday of the 2012 Carolina Challenge Cup. The Chicago Fire plays the Columbus Crew in the early game of the doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.; the Battery and United square off at 7:15 p.m.

The Battery rallied twice on Saturday to secure a 2-2 tie with Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew. After conceding an early goal forward Dane Kelly scored just before halftime to bring Charleston level. Columbus scored a second from the penalty spot early in the second half but the Battery fought back and tied the game in the 90th minute as midfielder Jose Cuevas converted the game's second penalty.

5,767 soccer fans attended the first day of the Carolina Challenge Cup on Saturday setting a new single-day attendance record for the tournament.

D.C. United defeated the Chicago Fire 1-0 on Saturday behind a goal from designated player Hamdi Salihi. United leads the tournament with three points, the Battery and the Crew are tied for second place with a point apiece leaving Chicago in fourth looking for their first point of the tournament.

The Carolina Challenge Cup concludes on Saturday with D.C. United playing the Columbus Crew at 5 p.m. followed by the tournament finale as the Charleston Battery battle the Chicago Fire at 7:15 p.m.

NBC Sports shoots MLS promos at Blackbaud Stadium

NBC Sports shot promos, videos and still photos for the upcoming Major League Soccer season at Blackbaud Stadium on Monday evening. The shoot featuring players from Columbus, Chicago and D.C. started at 3 p.m. and continued well past midnight. NBC Sports is MLS’s new broadcast partner and will televise 38 regular-season games, three playoff games and two U.S. Men's National Team matches in 2012.

Chicago Fire teams win Development Academy Challenge Cup

The Chicago Fire Development Academy teams swept the 2012 Development Academy Carolina Challenge Cup winning in both the U16 and U18 age brackets. The six-club/12-team tournament featured the South Carolina United Battery, the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, Indiana United Fire, D.C. United and New York Red Bulls.
