HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders signed midfielder Morgan Langley for the 2012 season, pending USSF approval, bringing the 22-year old back after Langley made his professional debut with the club last season.
“I’m very excited to be coming back to Harrisburg this season,” Langley said. “We have a good core group of guys returning and have a great chance at fighting for the championship.”
The Hawaiian native played for Swarthmore College and is the college’s all-time program leader for both points and assists. He signed with the City Islanders, notching his professional first goal on May 31, in a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
He appeared in 20 games for the Islanders in 2011, mostly as a substitute, and the team will look for Langley to move into a bigger role this season as the club looks to build off of their success in 2011, when they won the USL PRO National Division title and were runners-up in the USL PRO Championship game.
Following the 2011 season, Langley signed a contract to join Harrisburg’s MLS affiliate, the Philadelphia Union, making one appearance as a substitute as the Union finished out their 2011 campaign. The Union declined Langley’s club option for the 2012 season.
“Morgan had a productive rookie season and we look for even bigger things from him in 2012,” Head Coach Bill Becher said. “He gained some experience playing with the Union when our season was done, and we are excited to have him back.”
Langley and the Islanders aim to capture the USL PRO Championship that they came up just short of winning last season. Their 2012 campaign begins Friday, April 20 in North Carolina against the Charlotte Eagles. The Eagles will then make the return trip as the Islanders will open their home portion of the schedule on Friday, May 4 against Charlotte at Skyline Sports Complex.
