MCALLEN, Texas - The RGV Grandes FC organization has named Daniel Mariscal as the head coach for the new Super-20 RGV Grandes Men’s team for the 2012 season.
Mariscal comes to the RGV Grandes FC Super-20s after serving as a successful head coach with the Grandes Youth Soccer Development Academy. He is responsible for the RGV Grandes FC 97 being the first team in the region (RGV Grandes U15), to ever be accepted to the prestigious 2012 DR Pepper Dallas Cup.

"Danny’s extensive knowledge and understanding of soccer, his work ethic, and capacity to teach and develop talent are exceptional. Most telling, though, is Danny’s passion for the game and for those he touches through his passion. He is committed to making a difference in the lives of our young athletes, who also love the game. We look forward to having Danny lead our Sub-20 team to a winning and successful 2012 campaign, and getting the type of player we need for the RGV Grandes ELITE team in 2013."
The American-born Mariscal, brings extensive experience as a player in Mexico, and in the United States, having started his youth career in the RGV region, then moving on to play for the Austin Capitals, continuing his collegiate career with the nationally-ranked Richland College, and professional stints in the Mexican 2nd division with Huracanes de Matamoros F.C. and the Dallas Toros of the PDL and the Arizona Sahuaros.
Mariscal’s coaching experience includes leading several RGV youth teams to state championships and the US Youth Soccer President’s Cup. Mariscal was named Director of Coaching for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club (Rio Grande Valley Division) and has assisted the Houston Dynamo South Texas Academy staff and Houston Dynamo Academy staff in their Elite Camps.
"The Rio Grande Valley has for a long period of time been a "hotbed" for talented youth players," Mariscal said. "It is time that we develop these players in a professional environment so that they can further their opportunities at the next level. I look forward for the opportunity of working with the Super-20 team and will be working hard to make this a prominent team and represent our region well."
Mariscal currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF ) National "C" License, USSF National "Y" Youth License and a National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA )National Diploma.
The RGV Grandes FC was founded in 2010. 2012 will mark the second season for the RGV Grandes FC, as a USL-affiliated team in the Rio Grande Valley. In 2011, the team participated in the USL Premier Development League (PDL). For the 2012 season, the team will be participating in the USL with their Super-20 team, under the guidance of Danny Mariscal, who will be responsible for training and developing players with professional aspirations.
