TAMPA, Fla. - The USL Super-20 League is pleased to announce the formation of the Westminster AFC women’s Super-20 League program, to begin play in 2012. The Westminster AFC Super-20 Women will participate in the Rocky Mountain Division of USL’s Super-20 League.
“The club is excited to roll out the women’s Super 20s as part of our expanded services in 2012,” Westminster AFC College Program Director Adam Loovis said. “Forming this team at the top end of our development plan coincides with the WAFC Elite Academy at the younger ages. Our elite players can now follow USL’s proven pathway from the Academy straight through to the highest levels of amateur soccer in this country.”
As the longest standing and most sophisticated U20 men’s and women’s North American amateur league, the Super-20 League provides the platform for top 17- to 20-year-olds in the United States and Canada to compete at the elite level. While serving as a reserve team system for many W-League and PDL teams, the USL Super-20 League features teams competing in regional divisions, consisting of 8-10 regular season matches throughout the summer months.
“We are extremely pleased to have Westminster AFC join the Rocky Mountain Super-20 Women’s Division,” USL Senior Director of Youth League Development Brian D’Amico said. “Westminster AFC is a club of the utmost competitiveness and is administratively sound, which makes this a positive addition to the division. Their addition will make one of our most competitive women’s divisions even stronger.”
The Super-20s will be the capstone of the developmental pyramid on the ladies’ side of the club, and coincides with expansion at the base through the creation of the WAFC Elite Academy. This new opportunity will allow current WAFC youth and college players the chance to go from the Academy, through the youth ranks, into college programs, and beyond.
Information on tryouts, coaching staff, and schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
