JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi Brilla FC Coaching Staff and players recently returned from a successful USL PRO Combine presented by Umbro in Bradenton, Fla. The Brilla had three players participating in the combine: Mike Azira, pictured, Nick Rich, and Bryce Taylor. Alec Kann was scheduled to be at the combine but joined the Chicago Fire of the MLS for their preseason instead. After a day of testing and training, the players participated in three games during the event. The weather and facility were perfect, which led to a high standard of play throughout the weekend. As is the case with any kind of combine or tryout, it took the teams a little bit of time to settle their nerves and find some rhythm to their play. The final game on Sunday was buzzing as the players were trying to prove their worth to the onlooking scouts.
"It was a great weekend. The facilities are first class, and the weather was outstanding. It was a great experience for our players and our coaching staff. We were able to forge some good relationships with coaches that will only help benefit our players in the future," said Assistant Head Coach Todd Eason.
All of the Brilla players represented the club well in front of the USL PRO Coaches throughout the weekend. Currently, all three are in different stages of negotiations with teams throughout the league.
"We expect several to sign contracts within the next week," said Head Coach Dave Dixon. "When April comes around and the USL PRO season begins, there could be as many as six players from the 2011 team playing in the league."
"It is exciting for both the players and our club," continued Dixon.
"One of our goals is to help guys fulfill their dream of playing at the professional level. We are proud of these guys and know they will represent our club at the next level very well."
Mississippi Brilla FC will kick off their sixth season in the Premier Development League in May. Stay tuned to the Brilla website for some exciting upcoming announcements about the schedule, ticket sales, player signings, and a new supporters club.
